Habitat's Eligibility Requirements: 

  • The applicant(s)* must be U.S. citizens or legal residents.

  • The applicant(s)* credit score(s) must be 620 or higher.

  • The applicant / co-applicant’s income meets the minimum income (before taxes) of $64,000

  • The applicant(s)* must be employed and have been employed for at least 2 years. 

  • The applicant(s)* cannot have owned a home for at least 3 years or be in bankruptcy.

  • The applicant(s)* cannot have been foreclosed upon in the past 7 years.

  • The applicant(s)* must I/We plan to use this home as my/our primary residence for the duration of ownership. 

  • The applicant(s)* must not willing to partner with Habitat for Humanity by volunteering 200 hours on a construction site, participating in homeowner preparation classes, and attending meetings.

  • The applicant(s)* is/are willing to save an estimate of $8,600 for the downpayment and closing costs.

  • The applicant(s)*must not have recent credit card debit or bills in collections, which includes judgments and liens. If I/we have any accounts in collections, they are less than $2,000 and are on a payment plan

Maximum Income Guidelines:

  • Minimum Income for Applicant(s): The applicant and co-applicant (if applicable) must make a minimum gross income (before taxes) of $64,000.

  • Maximum Income for Household: Your household size includes anyone who will be living with you in your home. The income of all household members 18 years old and older (before taxes) must be counted towards the maximum income for household.   

How to apply: 

If you meet the eligibility requirements above, please do the following:

  1. Download the application packet (see buttons below)

    1. You may visit our office Tuesdays through Thursdays from 9am to 3pm at our office to pick up an application or the ReStore, located on 415 Hamburg Tpke in Wayne during regular business hours.

  2. Fill out the application in full and gather all the supporting documents requested (see list in the application packet). 

  3. Submit your complete application and all supporting documents by: email, mail, or drop-off.

    • By mail: Passaic County Habitat for Humanity, PO Box 2585, Paterson NJ 07509

    • Drop-off:

      • 146 North 1st Street, Paterson on Tuesdays through Thursdays from 9am to 3pm.

      • Anytime in our secure mailbox in the front of our office building.
