To carry out our vision, we partner with individuals and families from application through construction to when the keys are handed over.

Purchasing a Habitat Home

During an open application period, you may submit an application to Passaic County Habitat for Humanity. Please note, that each project has its own set of homebuyer requirements. Potential applicants will begin by submitting an application to help determine if they meet our eligibility requirements. All potential homebuyers will go through rigorous screening including credit and background checks, and employment verification. 

Important Things to Know

Application Cycles 

Sign up to be notified as soon as we have an application cycle open. We only open applications when we have homes ready to sell. Typically, it takes up to 12 -18 months from when a qualified buyer submits an application to purchase their home. Because build cycles can be difficult to predict as we wait for external processes, we aren’t able to give an exact date before opening a new cycle. 

Submitting your Application & Materials
  • Applications are only valid for the homes listed in the application packet you receive or download.

  • Your household size is determined by who will live with you in your Habitat home. 

  • Applications are entered into a random selection process.

  • Each application will be assigned a random, computer-generated number.

  • The assigned number will determine the order in which your application will be considered.

  • Based on the number assigned to you in the lottery, we will send you a letter requesting documentation to complete the application.

  • Applicants will have 10 business days to submit the required documentation.

  • After the application processing period, a decision will be made on the application and a notice will be sent.  

  • If you want to apply again in the future, you’ll have to submit a new application.
