Building More Together for Veterans

The future home of VFW Post 10117 and four new homeowners

Passaic County Habitat kicked off a new, month-long, partnership with the employees of the City of Passaic. Mayor Hector C. Lora challenged city employees to join him on the construction site at 135 Summer Street, Passaic - the future home of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10117, and four new homeowner families.

"We are calling it dress-down, build-up Wednesdays," Passaic Mayor Hector Lora said. "Everybody wants to see this succeed."

Team Work

City employees were encouraged by Mayor Lora to pick up a hammer, share a skill, or learn a new one. By working alongside our dedicated construction staff and other volunteers, the City of Passaic employees are helping bring to fruition the new Albert Lawson VFW Memorial Post 10117.

Condemned in 2019, the former VFW hall was demolished two years ago. A groundbreaking event was held last March to kick off the construction of the new building. The new property will serve two purposes, hosting offices and meeting space to help veterans on the ground floor, and four homeownership opportunities on the second.

We will be sharing much more about the Summer Street project as well as the story of one of the future homeowner families in the coming weeks.

Registration for all interested construction volunteers will open in March.
